Smoltz is stabilizing a rotation ravaged by injuries. Last week, the righthander went 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA and 14 K’s in 15 innings. On June 26 against Baltimore, he pitched his second straight complete game, allowing only one run and five hits. Five days later, he again allowed just a single run, this time against a division rival, the Phillies.
