Improvements in the 2007 Tahoe include a smoother ride, more responsive handling, better fuel economy, enhanced safety features, sportier exterior styling and a more refined interior design, Chevrolet said.
The initially available 320-horsepower Vortec 5300 V-8 engine includes active fuel management technology, formerly called displacement on demand, that gets 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway as the vehicle shifts from eight cylinders to four cylinders and back as conditions warrant, Chevrolet said. A Vortec 4.8L V-8 will eventually become standard on two-wheel-drive models.
The Tahoe is built on General Motor’s new full-size SUV platform, which features a fully boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and wider front and rear tracks, the company said. The stiffer frame’s strength and accuracy enable more precise mounting and tuning of chassis and suspension components, which help reduce vibration in the passenger cabin, Chevrolet said.
