The automotive industry has been supplying us with employment and transportation since the beginning of the 20th century. The Chevrolet history beginning in 1911 is full of innovation and American spirit.

Chevrolet Motor Company started because William Durant had been forced out of General Motors even though he founded the company. America is lucky he chose to start a new automotive company instead of walking away from the industry. From it’s first inception Chevrolet has been known for innovation and good design.

In 1911 William Durant and Louis Chevrolet formed a partnership starting the Chevrolet motor Company. This partnership produced the Chevrolet Classic Six, a luxury car for the wealthy costing $2,150.00. By 1915 the two men were at odds on the direction the company should take and Durant bought Chevrolet out. Chevrolet wanted to stay with the big impressive cars only, and Durant wanted to introduce lesser priced cars for the common man.

The direction Durant took Chevrolet Motor Company proved to be the right one.

By 1916 Durant had acquired enough money from sales of Chevrolet Motor company cars to purchase a major share of the General Motors company and by 1917 he was the General Motors president.
