Classic Chevy’s
For 1958, General Motors and Chevrolet redesigned a car that was broader, lower, longer, and heavier than their 1955, 1956 and 1957 predecessors. The 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevy’s were described as the “Hot Ones.” Chevrolet advertising described the 1958 Chevy as a “A Whole New Look!” All models had a fresh look and a pleasing design especially in the 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air series.
There were 6 new Bel Air’s. (1) Bel Air Sport Coupe two door hard top, (2) Bel Air Sport Sedan four door hard top, (3) Bel Air two door Sedan and the (4) Bel Air four door Sedan. Plus the 1958 (5) Bel Air Impala Convertible and (6) Bel Air Impala Sport Couple which are covered in another Ezine Article.
The Bel Air Sport Coupe two door hard top and Bel Air Sport Sedan four door hard top, were in some ways closely related to the more costly Bel Air Impala. Exterior trim and interior trim packages were luxurious but slightly different. However, they were still beautiful cars and part of Chevy’s top line up. In fact they were the focal point of Chevrolet’s popularity and could be equipped with almost any accessories available for 1958.
